R:From a blog, I've watched some pictures about you, which were taken in Jinan University, Guangzhou. They are about a meeting named as ELT (English Language Teaching) International Conference. So, can you give me a brief introduction on the conference?
J: The conference was organized by one of my friends, Tony Newman, working for Jinan University. Most of the attenders are teaching staff, and they discussed authentic application of teaching methodology. Authentic means real, which is equal to use English to learn and express yourself well.
R: From your educational background, I've learned that you had a master's degree in English Teaching as a second language and English Education. So, how do you appraise the traditional ways of the Chinese teachers teach English?
J: Well, teaching itself is hard to figure out, some appropriate, but some inappropriate and different people have different ideas on it. But the essential part of language teaching is let students do more practice. To sum up, Chinese teachers are quite good. When I was in elementary school in Guangzhou, the Chinese children can speak English more or less, but Americans cannot. Put it simply, I do not criticize much of them, instead, most of them are useful.
R:Is there anything that leaves deep impression on you in Shaanxi Normal University?
J: I love this campus, and I see a lot of people kind and welcome to me. The most point is that I always see professors live on campus with students. Besides them, it also includes the parents and kids. Often, I can notice kids playing on the grass and laughing greatly, and I think it's fun, and I love it.
R:How long do you plan to teach in our university?
J: Well, it depends on opportunities. If I am provided a chance to teach in other schools, maybe I'll... But, at least, I’ll stay here at this semester.
R:Ok, that's all. Thank you very much. Have a nice talk with you.
J: You're welcome.
